Verification & KYC Policy
JUMP TOThis Verification & KYC Policy (the "Policy") forms part of the DomainEasy™ Terms of Use & Agreement (the "Terms") and applies to all users ("Users") of DomainEasy Inc. ("DomainEasy," "we," "us," or "our"), including buyers, sellers, lessees, and lessors.
This Policy explains our identity verification, fraud prevention, and risk controls, including requirements related to KYC (Know Your Customer), KYB (Know Your Business), and transaction verification.
By using the Site and Services, you agree to comply with this Policy.
- Purpose
DomainEasy operates a transaction facilitation marketplace for domain names. Verification helps protect Users and DomainEasy by reducing:
- fraud and impersonation,
- stolen payment methods / chargebacks,
- domain theft and unauthorized transfers,
- money laundering / prohibited activity, and
- disputes relating to ownership, delivery, and payout.
DomainEasy may apply verification requirements to Users and/or transactions in order to maintain marketplace integrity and comply with applicable legal obligations.
DomainEasy implements its verification and monitoring processes to comply with applicable anti-money laundering (AML), counter-terrorist financing (CTF), sanctions, export control, and financial crime laws, regulations, and payment processor requirements, including but not limited to requirements imposed by Canadian, United States, United Kingdom, European Union, and other applicable authorities.
- Definitions
For purposes of this Policy:
- KYC = Know Your Customer (identity verification for individuals).
- KYB = Know Your Business (verification for corporate / entity accounts).
- Verification = any identity, payment, ownership, transaction, or security screening process required by DomainEasy.
- High-Risk Transaction = any transaction flagged by DomainEasy risk controls, including (without limitation) unusually large value, suspicious activity patterns, mismatched identity/payment signals, payment method risk, geographic risk, or prior violations.
Terms not defined in this Policy have the meaning set out in the Terms.
- When Verification May Be Required
DomainEasy may require Verification at any time, including:
- Account creation and onboarding;
- Seller onboarding prior to allowing listings, leads, or payouts;
- Buyer onboarding prior to allowing checkout, financing, or certain payment methods;
- Financing transactions (Lease-to-Own, Deposit Plans, Balloon Plans);
- Large transactions or high-value portfolios;
- Unusual account activity (rapid listing changes, IP changes, login anomalies, etc.);
- Fraud signals detected by DomainEasy or third-party providers;
- Payout requests or changes to payout destination/banking; and/or
- where required to comply with applicable laws, payment rules, or platform risk controls.
Verification requirements may vary by transaction value, payment method, geography, and other marketplace risk signals.
- Information We May Request
Depending on the circumstances, DomainEasy may request the following information:
4.1 Individual KYC
- legal name;
- date of birth;
- residential address;
- phone number and email verification;
- government-issued photo ID;
- selfie / liveness check; and/or
- proof of address (utility bill, bank statement, etc.)
4.2 Business KYB
- legal business name and address;
- incorporation/registration documents;
- beneficial ownership information;
- director/officer identification;
- authorization to bind the entity;
- business email/phone verification; and/or
- tax or business registry numbers where applicable.
4.3 Payment / Billing Verification
- confirmation of billing name/address match;
- payment method verification (card/bank);
- micro-deposit verification (where applicable);
- source-of-funds confirmation for large transactions (if needed);
- additional verification required by payment processors.
4.4 Domain Ownership / Delivery Verification (Seller)
- proof of ownership and control of the domain name(s);
- registrar account screenshots;
- WHOIS / RDAP data verification;
- DNS control verification;
- confirmation of authorization to sell or lease;
- transfer eligibility (locks / holds / dispute review).
- Transaction Risk Controls
DomainEasy may screen Users and transactions against government sanctions lists, politically exposed persons (PEP) databases, anti-terrorism lists, fraud watchlists, and other compliance databases as required by law, regulation, financial institutions, or payment processors. Transactions involving sanctioned persons, jurisdictions, or prohibited activities may be blocked, frozen, or reported to authorities.
DomainEasy may apply additional security requirements for certain transactions, including:
- stepped-up verification for Buyers and/or Sellers,
- additional proof of authority / ownership,
- manual review,
- temporary restrictions on messaging, listing changes, or payout changes,
- enhanced chargeback mitigation steps,
- mandatory use of certain payment rails for large transactions, and/or
- security holds as described in the Terms.
- Refusal, Failure, or Incomplete Verification
If Verification is required and a User does not complete it, fails it, or provides inaccurate or misleading information, DomainEasy may, at its sole discretion:
- decline to provide Services,
- restrict account access,
- cancel transactions (including pending financing transactions),
- suspend or terminate accounts,
- disable financing eligibility,
- delay or withhold payout until verification is complete, and/or
- report suspicious activity to applicable payment partners, registrars, or authorities where required by law.
DomainEasy is not liable for losses arising from a User's failure to complete Verification.
- Ongoing Monitoring
7.1 Automated Decision-Making
Verification, fraud detection, and compliance processes may involve automated systems, including risk scoring, identity verification, and transaction monitoring. Such systems may impact eligibility for financing, transaction approval, payout timing, or account access. Where required by applicable law, Users may request human review of automated decisions.
7.2 Ongoing Monitoring
DomainEasy may conduct ongoing monitoring to protect marketplace integrity, including:
- reviewing account activity,
- reviewing transaction behavior,
- reviewing chargeback/fraud signals,
- updating risk rules,
- re-verifying Users periodically (especially for large portfolios / frequent deals), and/or
- requiring re-verification where material account changes occur (such as banking/payout changes).
- Verification Provider (Stripe Identity)
DomainEasy may use third-party identity verification and fraud-prevention providers to verify Users and transactions.
For higher-risk transactions, elevated-risk Users, and/or larger transaction values, DomainEasy uses Stripe Identity (a service provided by Stripe, Inc. and its affiliates) to help verify identity documents, confirm identity, and mitigate fraud and chargeback risk.
By using the Services, you acknowledge and agree that:
- DomainEasy may require identity verification as a condition of using certain Services, including financing and high-value transactions;
- you may be required to submit identity documentation (including government-issued ID and/or proof of address) through Stripe Identity;
- Stripe Identity may collect, store, and process verification information on DomainEasy's behalf in accordance with Stripe's policies; and
- DomainEasy may deny or restrict access to Services, cancel transactions, delay delivery/access, or delay payouts if verification is incomplete, fails, or cannot be confirmed.
- Data Handling, Privacy, and Security
Verification data may include sensitive personal information.
DomainEasy will handle verification information in accordance with:
- the DomainEasy Privacy Policy, and
- applicable privacy laws.
Verification data may be processed by DomainEasy and authorized service providers (including Stripe Identity) for the purposes of:
- identity verification and fraud prevention,
- transaction security,
- payment risk controls and compliance,
- dispute resolution, and
- legal and regulatory compliance.
DomainEasy does not guarantee that verification processes will identify all fraud or misuse.
DomainEasy collects and processes only such verification data as is reasonably necessary for identity verification, fraud prevention, transaction security, compliance, and regulatory obligations, and does not use such data for unrelated purposes.
- Recordkeeping and Retention
DomainEasy may retain verification and compliance records for as long as reasonably necessary to:
- comply with legal, regulatory, tax, accounting, and audit obligations;
- enforce contractual rights;
- support dispute resolution;
- prevent fraud and chargebacks; and
- protect Users and the platform.
Retention periods may vary by jurisdiction, transaction type, risk profile, and regulatory requirements. Verification records may be retained for up to seven (7) years or longer where required by applicable law, after which such data is securely deleted or anonymized.
- Updates to This Policy
DomainEasy may update this Verification & KYC Policy at any time. Updated versions will be posted on the Site and become effective upon posting (or as otherwise stated). Continued use of the Services constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
